International Video Formats

Standard "VHS Tape" refers to the size and type of tape. However, there are three main formats (the way the signal is recorded on the tape), and they are NOT interchangeable. The format used in the United States, Canada and Japan (among others) is called "NTSC." Western Europe and Australia use a system called "PAL," and Eastern Europe and France use "SECAM."
